There is a ton of hype going around in the “crunchy” circles about oil cleansing.
I wanted in, and I wanted out of using anything with chemicals on my body.
I tried just water…..
But I needed something better.
So I raided my cabinet and decided to try this oil cleansing method everyone has been talking about!
The Oils:
Olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil…….ahhhhh WHICH one to use?
My searching finally landed me on sweet almond oil.
Oil….to clean your skin? Isn’t that what we are trying to get off?
Well turns out that oil actually dissolves oil! How great is that!
(Side note: castor oil is the most dissolving, and if you wear makeup regularly {which I do not} you want to add at least 25% to your sweet almond oil and make a mixture)
My Skin:
So I have never really had TERRIBLE skin, but it wasn’t that great either.
I wanted it soft and dewy and….. bright!
The OCM totally did this for me.
The Method:
STEP 1: Wet face with warm water (that’s pretty easy right?)
STEP 2: Massage in a quarter size amount of oil into your face. Rub around in circles and the places you tend to have the most oil.
STEP 3: Wet a towel in the warmest water your face can stand. Place the towel on your face and let the steam open your pores.
STEP 4: Wipe off the oil with a very warm towel.
Taa daa…. That’s it!
No more need for cleanser, toner or moisturizer! It’s an all in one solution. And can I say after a few months of doing this every night, my face feels and looks AMAZING!
What OCM does for you:
It’s great for your skin! It’s helps many people clear up acne, and helps combat and balance both dry and oily skin!
It’s totally natural. Be sure you are buying quality, cold pressed oils.
It’s also a makeup remover! Even removes stubborn mascara.
So ditch those store-bought cleansers and try out the oil cleansing method. You will totally be glad you did!

Wow. Sounds so simple and easy. I’m going to try it.
Let me know how you like it!
Great post! I love using the oil cleansing method myself. So much better for your skin.Thank you for sharing.
Never in a million years would I think to use oil to clean my skin! I must try this – soaps make my skin so dry and sensitive! Thanks for opening my eyes!
You’re so welcome. I too was in the dark at one point! After trying this I will never go back! #nomorechemicals
I’ve seen these types of oils on the market and there are so many of them! Thanks for breaking them down and explaining the process.
I hadn’t heard of this method before and it is so easy! Being a natural oil I feel very comfortable trying it! Thanks!
It is super easy and I LOVE it! I actually look forward to washing my face at night because of how great it feels.
I’ve used coconut oil for cleansing my face. But there is a role of pH in the texture of our skin. Just because oil is somewhat moisturizing at first doesn’t mean that our individual skin won’t dry out after it. I’ve had a hard time using essential oils on my skin for that same reason. It’s a shame because I like the reasoning behind this type of self care. It’s good for people out there with compatible skin. =)
I have found coconut oil to not work for my skin either. Have you ever tried sweet almond oil? It is much thinner and more closely resembles the oil out skin naturally makes.
This is an awesome post! I’ve been wearing makeup for quite some time now and I’ve been using castor oil to strengthen my lashes and I never knew this was possible! I have to see how it removes my makeup 🙂
Great idea! Thanks for sharing on The HomeAcre Hop! Hope to see you again today!
I have been using coconut oil on my face for about 6 months now and love it, however the first 2 months my face broke out bad with small pimples until my face adjusted. It may take a while for your face to adjust but it will.
I have been doing this going on 3 weeks now. At first it was great, but now I am breaking out like crazy! I use a 70% Olive Oil/30% Castor Oil blend. I am typically pretty oily. Since doing this my face is still oily, but dry. I know that there is an adjustment period, but it is hard wanting to continue. It will get better, right? Should I use an additional moisturizer? Thanks!
I sometimes use Vintage Traditions balm on my face as an extra moisturizer. It’s great and all natural. I also have heard that olive oil doesn’t work the best for lots of people. Have you considered changing to sweet almond perhaps?
I may try that. I have heard that the sweet almond is good. Thanks
