I LOVE lip balm.
Over the years I have bought many-a lip balm and most of them were full of pretty questionable ingredients, ok ALL of them!
This was something I was putting directly on my lips and inevitably getting in my mouth.
So then I started carrying around a few organic lip balms. I liked them, but they were oh so expensive!
To remedy that, I came up with my own lip balm recipe. Plus I could scent them any way I liked!
It’s super easy to make and trust me it’s the gateway to making all your own beauty products at home.
Homemade Lip Balm
- 1 tablespoon organic beeswax
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons of raw shea butter
- 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oils (where to buy quality essentials oils)
Grate your beeswax and add it to a double boiler (a bowl over a pot of boiling water).
Add the shea butter and coconut oil and stir until completely melted. Turn off the stove and stir in your essential oils.
Use the pipette to transfer mixture to empty lip balm tubes. After a few minutes of them cooling, I like to top it off with a few more drops of melted lip balm since it tends to cool with a pit at the center.
Cap your lip balm and store for up to a year!

Oooo lip balm. I am such a lip balm junkie it’s unreal. Is it possible to substitute the coconut oil for something else? My son is allergic to nuts and they told me to stay away from coconut even though he didn’t test positive to it so I try to stay away from it just in case. Or do you know that if heating it up gets rid of anything that would cause an allergy to it?

This is a great recipe! I am excited to try it! I have had some problems with recipes involving coconut oil since I live in Florida and it was 86 degrees at midnight last night. Do you think this would hold pretty well or should I substitute the coconut oil or something else? If so, what?

I’m in South Alabama and it HOT here too. The beeswax holds it together just great. Add an extra teaspoon of beeswax if you want it a little firmer though. I like the addition of the coconut oil because of the anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties!

I’m excited to try this recipe! How many tubes does it make?
Toups Mom says
It varies between 16-18 for me 🙂

I’m going to have to find some beeswax local, I’d probably pay more for shipping than the beeswax.

Amazon usually has quality beeswax and good shipping prices! http://amzn.to/1tgiBbT

Found some beeswax locally, It wasn’t where I’d ever thought of looking, I’m going to cheat and instead of putting it in tubes, I’m going to put in tiny containers like carmex comes in the boys like those better.
