Our big move…
After the big move to our new 20 acre property and the acquisition of my sweet Jersey girl named Belle, things have finally started to settle down on the new homestead.
I still have 1,000,000,000,000 Pinterest inspired dreams of where and how my dream garden is going to look and a notebook full of ideas of where and how we are going to put a new pig, but I am back to a somewhat of normal routine with the kids. Not that any schedule is is ever normal with 2 toddlers, but I try!
One of those includes making fresh homemade ice cream on the weekends. Rich raw milk, combined with a bounty of fresh blueberries we gleaned this summer is truly a match made in heaven.
I say it’s my treat for the kids on the weekend, but secretly I think it is momma who enjoys it the best!
Fresh berries!
Fresh berries bring back memories of being a kid and picking as many berries as me and my sister could find. We would bring them back so momma could make us a treat, and soon enough my children will be berry picking in hopes that this momma will make them a sweet treat! I promise they won’t be disappointed because this ice cream perfectly fits the bill! Rich and creamy with only a touch of tang from the berries.
This summer we were fortunate enough to be invited to pick a ton of blueberries from a local organic farm. I took full advantage and stocked our freezer full! With a freezer full of the sweetest plump berries I’ve ever tasted (he told me he uses raw milk as a fertilizer!) and daily fresh creamy milk, what’s a woman to do?
Homemade Blueberry Vanilla Ice Cream
2 cups of raw cream
2.5 cups of raw milk
3/4 cup of your favorite organic sugar or maple syrup
pinch of sea salt
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- Combine all ingredients except blueberries into blender.
- Blend until mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Add blueberries and blend for about 30 seconds, leaving a few chunks.
- Pour mixture into ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s directions.
Optional Dairy-Free Version
If you or someone in your family simply cannot handle dairy, this is a great option for you!
Just substitute the 4 cups of raw dairy with 4 full cups of your favorite full-fat coconut milk. It works great, but may need a small amount of additional freezer time for the perfect scoop-able consistency.

I sure do miss fresh blueberries here in west Texas. We used to pick our own and puts lots in the freezer when we lived in Alabama- oh well, we have beautiful sunsets here 😉

We have 20 blueberry plants. The berries are gone before they ever get into the house. Next year I will have to save some for this ice cream recipe!
